Welcome!

My name is Cassandra and I have been teaching children in different settings since 2012.

I am moving towards a more organic and sustainable lifestyle. I wish to see a better future for my children. I believe many people inadvertently live a convenient lifestyle rather than seeking a better but potentially more taxing route.

I currently live in a small town a few hours south of Sydney on acreage with my family. I enjoy the outdoors, regularly visiting many of the local state forests and visiting my extended family on the coast.

"Homeschooling is a large and generous family. It is not the road well travelled and requires an extensive support network. I am an asset to your support network!"

My Story

Working with children has always been a passion of mine!

Back in 2012 I began my career of working with children, beginning in early childhood settings. During this time I also worked on achieving my education degree.

In 2016 I finished my degree and moved from rural NSW to Brisbane. I continued working with children in their formative years before starting school.

Mid 2018 I had the opportunity to work in London, where I made the switch from early childhood settings to school settings. As my teaching philosophy hinged on exploratory and play-based learning, I initially found this transition difficult.

Over time I found teaching in schools highly rewarding and particularly enjoyed building relationships and working with families.

Fast forward to 2020 and covid hit. Whilst other teachers found this difficult, I had already had some many changes in my short teaching life that I didn't find this daunting or difficult.

In 2021 I had a particularly challenging Year 3 class, that really struggled with managing their behaviour. This meant managing these troubles took more of my time than actively teaching the curriculum.

During this time schools were closed down for an extended period of time and I juggled teaching via Zoom and online tasks. This is when I noticed that ALL the students who struggled to manage their behaviours, were my most willing participants. Setting their own routines and structure was highly beneficial for these students. I learnt A LOT about my students and their families during this time and it has been the highlight of my career to date.

As schools returned to pre-covid routines, I noticed an even greater number of children struggled with the relentless conformity and structure. Even those who previously didn't struggle now found it harder.

Over the following years, I watched the government pour extra money into school budgets however systems barely changed and student progress and behaviour deteriorated. I also found myself longing for those opportunities to build connection and individual guidance, as I did during home learning.

That's where I began researching home learning and found that it was the perfect combination between self exploratory learning as seen in early childhood and school based learning.

That's what brought me here - to my happy place!
